SCRAP HOUSE

Love super cool architecture as much as I do? Well this is pretty dope. Hidden in the landscape of Blue Mountains (sweet name for a town, no?) north of Toronto, Ontario, is this somewhat out of place structure standing in contrast to its forested surroundings. As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, but in this case all that trash is what S.J. Sherbankun calls home. In fact, he built it himself with the help of designer James Campbell entirely out of old scrap industrial materials. A ‘country house with an industrial heart’ if you will, with the guiding principle behind its design being “repurpose, refurbish, recycle” — awesome right?

For me, I think it’s important to treat your home as an extension of oneself, and decorate/design it accordingly. This house is definitely a win in that category. Take a look at all the photos and read up on the entire ‘Scrap House’ article HERE to find out how Sherbanuk’s life story and background worked as inspiration behind the design. Pretty cool. —did I mention the gates to this place are made of an old truck chassis?

Yup, that’s recycled douglas fir, galvanized steel, an I-beam, and sunflowers all in the same room…in the middle of a forest. Something I like to call complimentary hotness.

I wouldn’t mind eating breakfast in my onesie and looking out floor-to-ceiling windows at all that beautiful lush forestland every morning. Nope.

The lucky loon (left) who lives in this house and the designer (right) who’s genius helped make it a reality. They look nice.
